How to straighten teeth without braces

Invisible Braces

If you’re looking to straighten your teeth invisibly, then we have the treatment for you. Invisible braces or invisible aligners are custom made plastic trays that are worn over a specified period of 12-24 months depending on your individual case.

How do braces work?

General braces such as metal or ceramic braces work by placing brackets on each individual tooth, which are then connected by wire. This places pressure on the teeth and adjusts them to their desired position. Invisible braces work similarly, although without the need for those awkward brackets and wires.

There are a number of steps that need to be taken before achieving your brand new smile. Firstly, an initial consultation will need to be conducted with Dr Lester.  This will ensure that the treatment is suitable for your current dental situation. If invisible braces are deemed suitable for you, then a treatment plan will be mapped out, taking impressions of your teeth so the aligners can be formulated. A series of aligners will then be created, which will be worn in two week periods before being switched to the next aligner in the series. This allows an adequate amount of pressure to be placed on the teeth, encouraging them to move, little by little, to their desired position.

The aligners should be worn day and night, except when eating, drinking, and brushing and flossing your teeth, ensuring treatment is as effective as possible.

Braces pain

Patients of traditional braces will openly tell you of the discomfort they experience or have experienced during their treatment. When it comes to invisible aligners, it’s not realistic to presume that your aligners or tooth movements won’t create minor aches or pains. Typically, patients with invisible braces can expect to feel a slight pressure on their teeth upon receiving each new set of aligners.

Additional pains that may be experienced include soft tissue irritation, such as gums, cheeks, tongue and floor of the mouth and slight discomfort when eating as a result of the pressure the aligners have placed on teeth.

Pain will begin to subside as treatment progresses, although continuous pressure will remain prevalent throughout the treatment to ensure tooth movement continues.
